In the series, FLOCKED, I was inspired by the transient qualities of life through discarded objects that were once coveted and collected. The different objects refer to specific dreams or goals, but all have lost significance to their original owners.
I became the new collector of these items, but instead of leaving them as found, I remove their original coloration and patina and flock them red. The flocking material leaves a soft, gentle surface reinforcing the nostalgia associated with many of these objects. And I used red because it is an emotionally intense color associated with determination, desire and passion, which collecting can be. When all of them are grouped closely together they emphasizes the obsessive nature of collecting.
